In the article, "Sex Education in America", by Ross Douthat expresses his own opinion on abstinence in sex education.
I agree with Douthat stating his opinion that sex education not being that big of a issue. For instance, he reveals that teaching abstinence in sex education is sort of useless when trying to convince teenagers to wait or just say no to sex. He believes that teaching it can lower pregancy rates in the U.S. but either way you think about it, teens are going to have sex reguardless. But teenagers will only listen to certain things when it comes down to the issues that sex can bring such as diseases or pregancy. Th fact that making choices in life comes with consequences. For example,the television show "Teen Mom", gives many teenagers the inside scoop on what it is like to be a teen parent and how it's not easy. Mainly the show trys to give teens the message that they should consider thinking twice until they are financially ready. But not all teens are the same, they barely think the same reguardless how close in age they are. Teens don't think about the consequences of their actions.
I believe personally that teaching sex-education could be effective and influence teens to think before they do things and be careful of the choices they make.
